To guide youth AOD workers in how to teach young people distress tolerance skills, five interrelated aspects of effective practice have been identified. Each aspect draws on particular therapeutic practice elements, from Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Adolescent Community Reinforcement Approach (ACRA).
