Insight and acceptance

Insight involves being awake to ones thoughts or feelings and having some ability to reflect accurately on how they shape behavior and are influenced by experience. A degree of and self awareness is necessary to enact other self-management skills such as emotional regulation and problem solving. Also, young people who can find ways to understand and accept who they are have more capacity to be resilient. Such self-validation extinguishes self-blame and counteracts the tendency to take responsibility for experiences that have been and are far beyond one’s control.
